Janai Purnima is a Hindu Festival celebrated in the Hindu Holy month of Shravan. Purnima indicates it is a Full Moon Night. The cotton thread worn around the chest is the Janai. On this day, annually this thread is changed. A sacred thread called Raksha is worn around the wrist of one and all who celebrate this festival. The priest comes to the house and ties the thread called raksha around everyone’s wrists chanting mantras.
